Albert Einstein is alleged to have said, “Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not yet completely sure about the universe.”
He was probably right to be unsure about the universe as current thinking suggests that it is finite after all – although it begs the question about what could lie beyond and why it shouldn’t be included as part of the universe: isn’t the universe meant to be universal?
On the matter of human stupidity though..
Consider this. That’s about £500,000 p.a. + benefits just to manage a recycling scheme. And god alone knows how much it cost for an army of
bureaucrats experts to produce this mountain of Newspeak. And yet, nowhere does it tell us what the total costs will be nor what the benefits will be (other than some obligatory, non-specific waffle about combatting climate change).
Wouldn’t it be simpler, cheaper and more genuinely environmentally friendly to concentrate on stopping the production of unnecessary packaging rather than creating another hectoring, unproductive empire to deal with its disposal?
